Dual Deployment – Both Canopies Open

Biplane

One canopy in front of the other. The student should disconnect the RSL, release the brakes on the front canopy and steer it until landing. It is important to remember not to perform aggressive or long turns. In this scenario the “flare” is not performed on landing. Instead, the student should prepare himself for a possible PLF.

Side-by-Side

The student should disconnect the RSL and check which of the canopies is more forward. This will be the dominant canopy, releasing it’s brakes and gently steering to the ground. In this scenario the “flare” is not performed on landing. Instead, the student should prepare himself for a possible PLF. Nevertheless, the student might consider to perform the emergency procedure if there is big separation between both canopies.

Downplane

This situation might be caused by an aggressive turn while in a Side-by-Side scenario. The student should disconnect the RSL and immediately perform the emergency procedure!
